Float Riding Policies

1.  Float riders must be members in good standing of the Krewe des Ambassadeurs. Only Krewe members will be permitted to ride.  Riders must put in a least 5 nights of work with one of the eleven Krewe Committees to be eligible to ride..

2. The rider fee of  $50.00 per person allows  participation in all the parades the  Krewe enters the float in during the 2005 season.  Each rider will provide his/her own  throws.  Riders will be accepted on a first come- first ride basis as  rider fees are  received.  A wait list of paid riders will be maintained in the event a rider is unable  to participate in any of the planned parades. Substitute riders will be  placed from the list, again on a first come-first ride basis.  Rider fees will not be refunded.

3.  Positions on the float will be assigned by the Float Chairman. There are  approximately 43 spaces available on the float.

4.  All riders are subject to the following rules.  Any rider who does not abide by the rules can be removed from the float by the Captain or a Float Chairman.

5.  Float throws must meet specific requirements.

*Beads - Beads must be at least 33 inches long which is a standard throw bead.  We will work to purchase these in bulk with the other Krewes and riders are  responsible for the cost of their beads if they take advantage of the bulk buy.

*Other Throws - Riders may throw other items from the float but should check with the Float Chairmen concerning any questions on the appropriateness of a throw  item.  The following are not approved throw items: candy, underwear,  or   condoms.  Any item that may be offensive to the crowd or bring discredit upon the Krewe should not be thrown.

*If you have questions about a throw item, get approval from the Captain or a  Float Chairman before purchasing.  Approved and suggested additional throws include the following: plastic items such as frisbees, skimmer rings, plastic toys, specialty beads, stuffed toys, plastic krewe cups, krewe doubloons.

Float Riding Etiquette

A.  Riders must wear a Mardi Gras jacket, a mask, a shirt without logo's or  printing (other than an Ambassadeur  logo) and white gloves. In case of extremely cold weather, wear a pair of white gloves over a pair of warm gloves.  The crowd will only see you from the waist up.

Remember the float will have sharp edges and bead hangers so keep that in mind when dressing.  Rings, watches, and bracelets should not be worn for safety reasons.

B.  Riders will not throw on curves or when the float is stopped. This prevents parade watchers from coming too close to the float resulting in bodily injury.

C.   Riders may bring refreshments but must drink out of a cup with a lid.  No glass containers will be permitted on the float.  No alcohol in Minden.

D.  Riders cannot smoke on the float.  This is a Fire Marshall rule and we can be pulled from a parade if anyone is caught smoking on the float.

E.  Riders are responsible for getting their throws to the float and helping clean up the float and return the float to the den after the parade.  Additional details about float loading will be sent to the riders at a later date.
